Do you think the term "ethnic cuisine" is racist?

Stevie Goldey: no. i believes it is just a term to explain that it is non-mainstream food like hot dogs or apple pie. doesn't bother me at all.

Barrett Felicia: I don't really think so. On Y!A as far as I can tell, it's used to describe any regional/national cuisine. I've seen questions that are about American, Japanese, African, Mexican, French, Indian, Thai ... everything, basically. As long as the question concerns a specific cuisine, no matter where from, it pretty much ends up here. How can it be racist, if food from anywhere could find its way into this section? :-)Outside of Y!A, I guess it may be a little racist. In that context I usually hear the term used to describe foods that are not Western European in origin....Show more

Ira Porietis: no it not racist and yes if your food is eating in another country it is called ethnic to.

Violette Vanek: No! The phrase "ethnic cuisine" just describes cuisine that is derived from various ethniticies!! I don't think there is such a thing as non-ethnic cuisine. Everything comes from somewhere or has an origin!!

Clemmie Burkleo: Not at all. "Ethnic food" is a broad term to refer to any food outside of your cultural heritage. For this reason, a white American can refer to Hungarian food as "ethnic," and a black American can refer to Ethiopian food as "ethnic." It has nothing to do with colors and everything to do with regions. I mean, if you want to get reaaaaalllllly technical about it, someone from the west coast of the United States could refer to US southern cooking as "ethnic" and vice versa because, culturally, they are not typically exposed to it. And yes, in other countries, your country's food is "ethnic."...Show more

Rosio Pasculli: No, I don't think it's racist. I think it's just descriptive

Branden Roddick: no i dont think so. I as a person of mixed ethnicities am proud that the food i eat (from whichever country it may be) is available for ot! hers to try.

Justin Casten: and name some foods that are! ethnic or nonethnic and describe why you think they belong in those catagories.
