Shena Etulain: can you clarify your question? If i am understanding you right a dialysis patient is restricted from salt only depending on their diagnosis and cause of kidney failure. Just about every dialysis pt is on fluid restrictions (strict one's) and salt consumption will increase the want to drink fluid. Technically they shouldn't (especially the one's with high blood pressure) have it on or off the treatment, but the staff can't tell someone what to eat when they are not at the facility. I hope that i answered your question but wasn't sure what you were asking

Lia Argall: I have to agree that diet pills are not a good idea for anyone let alone a lupus patient. They may clash with medication if you are t! aking any but in general lupus patients are intolerant of a lot of things so they may cause problems such as flares. I would be very wary of going down this route as the diet pills suppress your appetite you may not each very much at all and if your body thinks it's starving it will panic and in the case of a lupus patient you do not want that to happen as it will cause problems. If you have the diet pills and they do suppress your appetite the other problem will be that you probably won't have a nutritious diet which is vital for everyone but particularly lupus patients.I know it's difficult to eat sensibly (been there, done that myself) but it's by far the better way if you want to lose weight. We have clinically trialled low gi diets with patients and even those on steroids lost weight. I personally tried the South Beach diet, which is a low gi diet, with much success and if you stick to it you see quick weight loss in a very short time. With this diet you are still eati! ng nutritious foods and it's very beneficial for lupus patients in gene! ral: http://www.lupus.org.uk/information/information_in...If you are insistent upon taking the pills you MUST discuss it with your lupus specialist before taking anything as they will also advise you if it's safe....Show more
