It was basically to be used to assess taxes, but it listed the nobility, rich, even commoners, parents, children, etc., and was kept up for a time.The Welsh grew up knowing their ancestors 6 generations back. Gennie Shauer: Yes, genealogy started within the Bible, first in the Book of Genesis, proceeding on into Exodus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua and Kings.Ted is correct, that lots of Royalty, and Knights had the Pedigree documents to prove the order (and purity) of their lineage.Here in the US, it really took off with the Daughters of the American Republic (DAR) and with the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints !
